Dysport® & Botox®

Today, you have a choice in which TOXIN is right for you. As of 2009, The FDA has approved a second Botulinum Toxin A, also known as DYSPORT, that can perform the role in weakening the muscle area intended and decrease or completely rid you of the wrinkles associated with that area.

Toxins, DYPSORT and BOTOX are designed to soften or reduce the skin wrinkles by injecting tiny quantities of toxin into the muscle areas that are responsible for the movement creating the wrinkles of that area. This toxin inhibits the communication between muscle cells that is necessary for movement to take place. By inhibiting this communication, the muscle cells cannot communicate and therefore do not move as freely as before the toxin injections, which, in turn, removes or softens the wrinkles visible on the skin.

Many are turning to Botox® and Dysport® to reduce moderate to severe frown lines between their brows, forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. This safe and effective medication is placed into your wrinkles using a tiny needle. It is used to eliminate facial wrinkles and frown lines by decreasing the movement of the muscles in these trouble areas. Botox and Dysport can brighten up your attitude and outlook, remove the wrinkles of time or make small improvements in an otherwise perfect face. Botox and Dysport have also been used successfully for patients with excessive sweating in the armpits, hands or feet.

Botox and Dysport are specially formulated wrinkle-reducing toxins which relax the muscles when injected into the targeted area, ultimately reducing the appearance of frown lines and facial wrinkles. It is a minimally invasive procedure, allowing patients to return to normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. A topical anesthesia can be used, if necessary.

Following the Botox or Dysport procedure, it is not uncommon to experience some minor swelling, redness or bruising around the targeted site. Patients can take Tylenol and/or use ice packs to help reduce swelling and relieve any discomfort. Other side effects include drooping of the eyelid, nausea, headache and respiratory infection, but only occur in about 1% of patients. They are considered temporary and usually resolve themselves within a few weeks.

There are many other uses for toxins, one of which is for a condition known as hyperhidrosis, or overactive sweating. This sweating can be under the arms, the palms or the feet. Toxin injections to these areas can alleviate hyperhidrosis for months, and has helped many persons suffering from hyperhidrosis lead active, normal social lives.
